Brantley State Park, NM

April 26, 2014 We are currently sitting at Brantley Lake State Park, NM one of New Mexico's beautiful State Parks. Arrived here two days ago after leaving Roswell. Heard about this park from our neighbors at the park in Roswell. We are about 40 miles from Carlsbad Caverns, on a mesa at Brantley lake itself. It's quiet and uncrowded here and at $14 night, with water and electric a real find.

We are about 61.7 miles south of Roswell. As the drive didn't take all day we spent Thursday afternoon at Carlsbad Caverns and Holly spent it in jail. They don't allow animals in vehicles if the temperature is above 70* but they do have a kennel that they charge a flat $10. We were at Carlsbad Caverns all day Friday too.

The first afternoon we did the self guided tour of the Big Room with the audio system that you can rent; well worth the $5 it costs. The second day we had scheduled a ranger guided tour of the Kings Palace; again a great bargain for us seniors. The tour included a brief time in total darkness as the ranger turned out his candle lantern and turned off the lights on us. I can't imagine being in the cave without a source of light. You would be so lost. After we "did lunch" we took Holly out of her prison cell and walked her a bit sticking her back in to walk the Big Room again. Amazing how much you miss the first time through. I'm sure every time you walk through it you see another sight, another angle. Of the thousand or so pictures we took with (slight exaggeration) I've included just a few. Enjoy!
