June 6, 2014 I've decided that there must be a "bug ad" somewhere: "Prime real estate, imported from Idaho for your chewing, biting, stinging pleasure". First there were sand fleas and chiggers, mosquitoes, and deer flies. Yesterday we were introduced to the Yellow Fly. The Ranger said as we pulled into this State Park, just 400 acres big, "we are in yellow fly season, best advice is to set up camp as quick as possible and get inside!". WE DID! I'm a believer. Similar to a deer fly in looks but a mite smaller and yellow, they are insistent critters.
Ochlockonee said ( o-CLOCK-o-nee) is a small park with a few campsites, interior roads are sand. There has been a burn of some kind as trees and underbrush scorched. I can see that without the yellow fly it would be a nice, quiet place for hiking and, the Ranger said, swimming, and fishing.
