Fort Sumter, South Carolina

The Bosler's at Fort Sumter
July 4, 2014 Happy Fourth of July to all. Two days ago we visited Fort Sumter, where the first shots were fired in the Civil War. We had a glorious day to visit the old fort. It's too hot to take Holly with us, so she stayed at home. To get out to the fort you take a ferry tour and get to spend about an hour. They provide a volunteer guide to tell you Fort facts and on the island itself there is another lecture by a South Carolina park service employee. You get to wander about, looking at the view,  visiting the museum and imaging the fear, excitement and confusion of a battle in the 1860's.

We are parked at Lake Aire campground, west of Charleston itself; which seems a good place central to just about everywhere.  Hurricane Arthur passed by Charleston about 100 miles off the coast, our neighbors in North Carolina were not so lucky. We were expecting to have adventures and excitement on this trip but a hurricane is a little outside our comfort zone!
