Magnolia Plantation, Charleston, SC

The Bosler's on the front porch of
Magnolia Plantation
July 4, 2014  What a wonderful way to spend the Fourth of July; touring the grounds and home on an antebellum plantation. We were at Magnolia Plantation and gardens almost 8 hours; taking a tram tour of the grounds, a tour of the inside of the mansion and a self guided tour of the gardens. Going back in time to a life that is hard for an Idahoan to even imagine. At one time they "owned" 47 slaves. The cash crop that they finally set on was rice--which surprised us immensely.

Walking around the grounds takes you back to another era; pivotal in
both the Revolutionary war and the civil war. Magnolia Plantation has been rebuilt a few times. The first home was hit by lightening burning it to the ground, the second house was destroyed by Sherman in his march to the sea and after the war rebuilt and gardens replanted. The house and grounds have been in the Drayton family since the first house was built as a wedding present to the first couple.
The white bridge, they said, is the most photographed bridge is all of the south. It was a beautiful place!
